The vehicle was seen fleeing from police and deputies pursued it, eventually converging near Washington Boulevard and Tomlinson Avenue as they attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect refused to yield and drove through several stop signs before crashing into a street sign near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and North Sutherland Avenue.

The suspect fled on foot, prompting deputies to deploy pepper balls in an attempt to get him out of the vehicle. After failing to do so, the suspect surrendered to authorities around 6 p.m., according to sheriff’s department officials..

Officers flooded the cab of the pickup truck with gas, eventually leading to the suspect’s surrender. Upon his capture, officers found that he had a handgun and more than 1 ounce of suspected cocaine.

A man who had barricaded himself in Compton was captured after an eight-hour standoff with SWAT units called to assist. The standoff involved multiple agencies, including the LAPD’s LADN (Los Angeles County sheriff’s department) and HSI (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
